Why We Pursue the Unknown

Since beginning my website, I knew I wanted to launch a blog. The original goal I set was simple: every Sunday, I would take a moment to reflect on the happenings in our world—particularly in the industries Aurora Terra works with, including (but not limited to) space, education and research, and state and local governments.

As I sit here in the early stages of this LLC, I find myself asking a simple question: How did I come up with the idea to pursue this path in the first place?

That question led me to something deeper—the inspiration behind why we explore, why we research, and why we strive to discover the unknown.

I’m reminded of John F. Kennedy’s iconic words during the early days of space exploration:

We choose to go to the Moon and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard.
— JFK, Rice University, 1962

That mindset still defines the research community today.

Across industries, researchers, scientists, and innovators continue to push boundaries—not because the answers are obvious, but because they aren’t. The pursuit of the unknown is what drives progress.

Through my own experiences attending conferences and meeting researchers from around the world, I’ve stood in awe of this relentless pursuit. There is something powerful about being surrounded by people who dedicate their lives to asking difficult questions and chasing answers that may not come easily.

It’s inspiring.

And it’s exactly the spirit that Aurora Terra aims to reflect.

This blog will be a space for those reflections—a place to pause, to think, and to recognize the efforts being made across industries that shape our future. Whether it’s advancements in space exploration, breakthroughs in research, or innovations within our communities, each week will be an opportunity to step back and consider where we are, and where we’re going.

Because in the end, progress begins with a simple decision:

To pursue what is unknown.

Now I ask you: What drew you toward the unknown?
